Calling on Suella
Please confirm the date for our hustings with all Fareham & Waterlooville parliamentary candidates. Suella agreed to take part in a live debate when she met with Bella last Saturday at the Wickham Fete; we have yet to receive confirmation from her team. (Note: Gemma, Labour also agreed - the media team is reaching out to the other candidates)
We believe that it is really important that all the voters in our constituency have a chance ask their parliamentary candidates questions about their pledges, their personal commitment to all residents and to see them in the flesh.
A powerful statement from BBC's Nick Robinson prior to his Panorama interview with Rishi Sunak yesterday about politicians avoiding answering questions in an honest and straight-forward manner:
"Come on DO answer the question, people want answers to their questions...I grew up as as a kid, the grandsons of refugees from 1930's Germany and they talked about how politics of extremes thrives because politicians DON'T answer questions, are not challenged - they went to Communist China and found that that happened again. Politics matters in the end - we might laugh at it, we might shout at the telly, we might scream at the radio - but it matters, these guys are taking decisions about our lives, and we have this enormous privilege of choosing who represents us - and its worth half and hour of time to say: 'what would that guy [or girl!] do if we let [them] into power'" -Nick Robinson
