We call on Hampshire County Council to act quickly to improve safety at the Brook Lane/Headland Drive junction used daily by hundreds of our schoolchildren.

It's clear that road safety on Brook Lane and adjoining roads is a local concern and priority.

In our discussions with local residents and feedback since we highlighted the issue in our Focus Newsletters, we have been told of both accidents and near misses on these roads.

The cost of safety measures cannot be compared with the potential consequences to pedestrians and motorists involved in preventable accidents.

The County Council's traffic survey in September 2017 indicated that pedestrian movements at the crossing point on Brook Lane north of the roundabout with Headland Drive and Lockswood Road did meet the minimum value to justify a Puffin Crossing

Local Tory councillors did nothing and there is still no Puffin crossing, though we've seen more - and heavier- vehicles on the road in those six years.. This data is now considered to be out of date and a new survey will be commissioned this Autumn 2023.

Sign our petition today to support the campaign for a safer crossing.
